Menstrual Problems

Menstrual problems encompass a variety of issues that can affect the menstrual cycle, leading to irregularities, discomfort, or disruption in a woman's reproductive health. These problems can manifest in different forms, including:

  • Amenorrhea: Absence of menstruation, which may be primary (failure to start menstruating by age 16) or secondary (cessation of menstruation for six months or more in women who previously menstruated regularly).
  • Dysmenorrhea: Painful menstrual periods characterized by severe cramping in the lower abdomen, back pain, nausea, and headaches.
  • Menorrhagia: Excessive menstrual bleeding, resulting in prolonged periods or the need to change sanitary products frequently.
  • Oligomenorrhea: Infrequent menstrual periods, with cycles longer than 35 days or irregular intervals between periods.
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A hormonal disorder causing irregular periods, excess androgen levels, ovarian cysts, acne, and unwanted hair growth.
  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): Physical and emotional symptoms occurring in the days leading up to menstruation, such as mood swings, irritability, bloating, breast tenderness, and fatigue.
